Do-Rite Donuts

Today we are reviewing Do-Rite Donuts, on W Randolph St. in downtown.

Ruben:
Do-Rite Donuts! Let me say Do-Rite Donuts did it right. This was my first time going to Do-Rite. I have heard many good things about it. I think my favorite thing about this place is that they serve vegan donuts. I don't know any other donut shop in Chicago that has vegan donuts. There are a ton of people out there that are lactose intolerant, milk free and vegan. That is one of the things that really stands out about Do-Rite. The shop is very small. I'm talking so small that people have bigger closets then their whole space. But there is an advantage to being small. Everything has its place and really makes it have a cute atmosphere. All they have at Do-Rite is donuts and Dark Matter Coffee, which is actually brewed right near my house. I tried the Butter Milk Old Fashioned Donut because I wanted to see if something so simple could be so good. And it was. The cake donut was perfectly baked. Moist on the inside, crunchy on the outside. Just how I like it. I also had a little bit of the Vegan Chai Donut. It was okay, but if you go here, get a cake donut. If you want a good yeast donut head up North to the Donut Vault. I give Do-Rite 4.0 plates.

Otto:
Do-Rite Donuts is really small, with no inside seating. But they have tables outside. I got the Buttermilk Old Fashioned and the Vanilla Bean Glazed. Both were delicious. They have a limited amount of donuts each day, and when they sell out, they are gone. But the times we have gone there have both been in the afternoon, and they still had donuts, just not much of a selection. I like the more basic donuts anyway, and they had those on both visits. I give them 4 plates.

Max:
Do-Rite Donuts kind of reminds me of Doughnut Vault. Because they are both very small. I've been to Do-Rite once before and their donuts are really good. Today, I got the Chocolate Glazed and the Vegan Chai. The Chocolate Glazed is a classic cake donut dipped in valrhona chocolate. It was awesome! It tasted like a high quality and gourmet donut. The Vegan Chai was a little disappointing. I have had better vegan donuts in my life (from West Town Bakery, for instance), and the chai just tasted weird with the rest of the donut. I wish I had liked it better but it just wasn't that good of a donut. The atmosphere is pretty cool. It totally captures an old fashioned bakery kind of look. And like I said earlier in the post, Do-Rite is very small so they don't have any indoor seating. You can either take your donut to go, or you can eat it outside, were they have a few tables and chairs. We all ate ours outside, and it was a pretty cold day out so we were a bit chilly, but that was okay. Do-Rite donuts was pretty good so I give them 3.5 plates.

Doughnut Vault

Finally made it to Doughnut Vault!

Max:
We have tried to go here once before, but they were sold out. And this time we finally made it! I got the Strawberry Filled. And I just have to quickly say: it was.... The.... Best..... Donut.... I have ever had.... And I'm not too surprised because a bunch of our friends said that this is their favorite donut place. So that's that. I think one of the reasons why it tastes so good is because it's made with real strawberry jam. And a lot of jelly filled donuts are made with artificial jam. So it's nice to have a donut with real and natural jam. Another reason that made it so good is the vanilla glazing. I have never really had a vanilla glazed donut. And trust me, they're really good. I really like the atmosphere of the place because it seems to be an old Bank Vault, that was turned into a donut place. And that's probably why they call it Donut Vault. It's also very small to be the best donut place in the city, but they must have a kitchen somewhere in the bakery, probably behind the donut trays. But I just have to yell that I LOVED DONUT VAULT! and its my FAVORITE DONUT PLACE IN THE CITY! And I would give Donut Vault four and a half stars (out of five) because there might be even better donut places out there, and I'm sure I'll find them.

Otto:
This place is really small. Only about four groups of people can even stand inside. It was a rainy day when we went, and we were so lucky that there were only two people in front of us and lots of doughnuts left for us (and there were not any people after us, so we didn't feel rushed). The guy who was working there pulled out every single tray of the types of doughnuts available that day. He was really nice. I got the Buttermilk Old Fashioned and the Gingerbread Stack. These doughnuts are amazing, the best in Chicago, or at least the best I've had so far. The old fashioned was basically just a really delicious old fashioned. And the gingerbread stack was three smaller cake donuts, coated in cinnamon sugar, which was perfect for sharing. I usually like old fashioned or yeast donuts, but these cake donuts were just amazing. They were lighter than any other cake donut I've had, so light that I wasn't even sure it was a cake donut (in a good way). I can't wait to go back. I want to go back right now, ha ha. (I actually kind of do.)

Ruben:
The holy Donut vault we have been waiting to go here for months and we finally made it. We got up pretty early in the morning and we were on our way at about 9:00 AM. we got there and we all were so excited. Now what i did not know is that the vault is so small it's like the size of a hobbit home or something. I loved the atmosphere of the place very edgy and 1920's a small glass chandelier mirrors a old cash register so cool. The service was awesome the vault guy as we like to call him explained and told us all the flavors and was very patient while we we're deciding which donuts to get. Okay lets talk donuts these are the best donuts i have ever had in city of Chicago and probably the second best in the country. the first is Dough Brooklyn NY. I got a half dozen 2 for me and the rest to bring home to my family and they loved them too. I had the special of the day Roasted almond it was so FLAVORFUL fresh creamy everything you could ever want in the donut. The roasted almonds on top were so good sweet and salty. The donut itself was a yeast donut kinda had a vanilla taste and i might have tasted some kinda of coconut in there. The other donut i had was the classic glazed best glazed donut i have ever had better than Krispy Kream. folks you can see the vanilla bean! overall the Donut Vault was great place and i plan to go back really really really soon.

We get the grand tour of the day's doughnuts from the extremely helpful and patient and awesome Vault Man.

Huck Finn Donuts

Hello, today we will be reviewing Huck Finn Donuts.

Max:
So i have been here once before and they have good food, but great donuts. if you are in a hurry or if you want something tasty and cheap, than Huck's is the place where you should go. i got the Chocolate Sprinkle and Buttermilk Donut. the Chocolate Sprinkle Donut was definitely high above the average Chocolate Sprinkle Donut. it was very tasty and not dry at all. The Buttermilk Donut was a little too dry and it didn't quite have enough glaze on it. the atmosphere was like an average pancake diner. the service was good and patient. and the entire place is just a great donut shop. i think that Huck Finn Donuts was good and i will go back. and remember, their fast and cheap and perfect for on the go food!

Otto:
I have also been here once before. I got the old fashioned glazed donut and the custard filled powdered sugar donut. The old fashioned was better than average. The custard filled donut was really good, not as good as the other donut shops we reviewed, though. This place is more of a classic donut shop/diner. The food at the diner part is okay, and they do have pretty good cinnamon bun french toast.

Ruben:
So this is my first time having Huck Finn Donuts. and let me tell you they are good! and cheap! seriously we were going to a group hike and we bought 2 and a half dozen for everyone and it was only 30 bucks! talk about cheap eats. I had the coconut with the vanilla frosting and i had the special brown sugar donut also. First of all the coconut donut was so good. it was a yeast donut and the dough itself was so good and the frosting was also fantastic and the coconut on top was a very nice touch. The brown sugar was also amazing, probably better then the coconut, the brown sugar on top went great with the frosting. I liked the atmosphere of the place, kinda of like an old fashioned diner. The service was good and they were very patient with us since we took a long time to choose which donuts we wanted. Overall i loved Huck Finn and it is a great place to get a quality donut for cheap cause some donut places so expensive. for instance a dozen donuts at glazed and infused or donut vault etc would be 30 bucks for a dozen and WE GOT ALMOST 3 DOZEN FOR THAT MUCH. So seriously donut lovers, check it out.

Stan's Donuts & Coffee

Hello, Today we will be reviewing Stan's Donuts & Coffee.

Max:
So i have been here a few other times, and their donuts are some of the best donuts in the city. they actually might be the best donuts in the city, but there are many more donut places around Chicago, so i can't be positive. i got the Chocolate Pretzel Donut, and it's outstanding! Seriously one of the *Best* donuts. shaped like a pretzel, and with the dough of a donut. it's also covered in chocolate. Yum! very delicious. the atmosphere is very modern. and looks like an average bakery but with a lot more decor. the floor tile is really nice. they are making a lot of donuts fast! and their donuts pretty much always taste fresh and delicious! but overall Stan's Donuts & Coffee has very good donuts and i will go back soon! did you know that Stan's Donuts & Coffee's original location was built in 1963 and in Los Angeles California? check their website out. also Chicago is the only other place that has a Stan's Donuts & Coffee location other than California.

Ruben:
I liked this place a lot. This was my first time here and i had a pretty decent experience. I loved the atmosphere of the place kinda 50's retro but still it still had that new modern kind of look. The service was good and the employes were nice. I loved the display of the donuts they were nicely arranged and they had some really interesting flavors. I had the Old Fashioned blueberry donut. for an old fashioned donut it was super good. i really liked the blueberries it really complemented the glaze. And since one of Glazed and Infused locations is right across the street, Glazed And Infused better look out, cause you've got some serious competition. Stan's is a really good donut shop and i will definitely be visiting again soon.

Otto:
The doughnuts at Stan's are really good. I got the glazed donut, which might seem like a boring choice with all they have there (they have vanilla old fashioned, orange old fashioned, pistachio, maple, nutella filled, peanut butter filled, Biscoff cookie spread filled...and many more), but I like plain glazed donuts, and I think if a bakery can't make a good glazed donut, then they might not be a very good bakery. So it's a good test. And Stan's Donuts did really really well on the test. (I did also try the maple long john on a different occasion, in case you are interested, and it was delicious too). I like the design and layout and feeling of the shop.

Glazed and Infused

Hello, today we will be reviewing Glazed and Infused.

Max:
As some of you may not know today is National Pączki Day, and Glazed and Infused sells those on National Pączki Day. so we ordered a Dozen Pączki to eat and each of us got our own Doughnut. Pączki are Polish Snacks Basically like doughnuts, but are often filled with creme. but anyway i need obviously need to talk about my opinions. so i got the Chocolate4 doughnut and it was a chocolate cake doughnut with chocolate icing and these tiny white pebbles that seemed to have pretzel inside. and it was pretty good for a Cake doughnut. although i prefer yeast doughnuts instead. the Pączki were really good. although the one with lemon creme filling was REEAALLY TART!! so i wouldn't recommend that one, but the one with Chocolate Filling Was Simply excellent. it was a yeast Pączki with a kind of a Chocolate-Custard Filling that was Great! i would also recommend the Raspberry one too. but the restaurant was definitely the wright place to get a doughnut and i will try it again soon!

Ruben:
i love glazed and infused it was so good. first of all let me say the service is great. what we didn't know is that glazed and infused is hooked up to a restaurant so it's really just a couple tables and then a tiny counter where they have all the doughnut flavors on display. i got the raspberry glazed doughnut it was pretty good i liked the size of it cause its not like a small doughnut it's big and it's filling. the flavor of it was very good. the only thing i didn't like about it was the frosting was a little melty so i would like it if the glaze was a little more crusty. also since it was national Pączki Day we had to get Pączkis i had the vanilla Pączki it was amazing the cream in side was so good tasted like the cream inside french cream puffs. over all i think this was a good doughnut place and i would go back.

Otto:
The Pączki were amazing, and the old fashioned doughnut I got was really good too. We have tried to go here two times before, but they were closed because they close when they sell out of doughnuts, or by 2 pm. So we thought it would be really crowded, but it was actually pretty empty. Everyone there was really really nice.
