Jeni's Ice Cream

Hello, today we are reviewing Jeni's Ice Cream, on Southport and Roscoe.

Otto:
We went to Jeni's on a Tuesday evening, and there was a pretty big line, all the way out the door. But it was worth the wait, and luckily it moved pretty fast. While we were waiting, we looked at all the flavors which are listed on the boards. I ended up getting the Salty Caramel and Ndali Estate Vanilla Bean. I got mine in a homemade waffle cone, which was delicious. The salty caramel was very caramely and very salty. The vanilla was delicious. I think I liked the caramel better, but they were both amazing. We sat outside, where they have some benches and chairs. It's right underneath the el train tracks, so it's kind of noisy when the trains go by, but it was nice to sit outside there on such a nice summer night. I would give it 5 plates. Or 5 bowls. Or 5 cones, since it's ice cream we're talking about.

Max:
This is some really good ice cream. It's located on southport (under the train station). We had to wait in line for about 15 minutes, but I didn't regret it because their ice cream is so good. I got the Milkiest Chocolate in the World, and the Buckeye State. The Milkiest Chocolate in the World isn't the milkiest chocolate around, and maybe not the best chocolate ice cream around, but it tastes like a milk chocolate bar. Not a super milky chocolate bar. Even though it's delicious, it's not that milky. The Buckeye State is a peanut putter and chocolate ice cream. It's called the "Buckeye State" because it's based after a famous Ohio cookie which is a ball of peanut butter dipped in melted chocolate. I know this because my family comes from Ohio, and we often make this cookie as a snack. The Buckeye State ice cream actually does capture the authentic original cookie. So in that case I loved the Buckeye State very much and that makes my review better. The atmosphere is like a modern ice cream place. I loved the buckeye state, so I'll rate Jeni's ice cream 4 plates. The reason why I won't give 5 plates is because the Milkiest Chocolate in the World was just average chocolate ice cream. But it's overall a good ice cream place.

Ruben:
Jeni's is relatively new to the area. i think its been around for a year. but this is my first time going here. and i live in the area. I really liked the location right on southport. it's a perfect addition to the street. it really complements all the stores and restaurants on that block. also its steps away from the southport brown line stop. so that's convenient. Now Jeni's is a franchise they have several locations around the u.s. and i really don't like franchises so when i found out about that i was a little bummed. There was a huge line down the block so that was a pain. i walked in and i kind of liked the atmosphere but the outdoor patio is way nicer than the seating inside. i got the sun tea melon sorbet i had to get the sorbet cause i can't have milk. they had one other sorbet but it was wine flavored. you would think they would have a more kid friendly sorbet right? like a kid like me who can't have milk  would love a riesling sorbet, right? Lol. Anyway i have heard mixed reviews of their ice-cream. i don't really understand what is the big deal about it. it's a good place but its not like a place where you should wait in line for 15 minutes. Also they are very expensive, seriously 5 dollars for a small ice cream! oh, I'm forgetting about the sorbet. it was good. it had a nice flavor to it but that's about. it. i don't like to give not so good reviews, but i give jeni's 3 plates.

Si Fu (Cino Latino)

Today we are reviewing Si Fu, an Asian Latino fusion restaurant in Roscoe Village.

Otto:
Cino Latino is good because it's two different kinds of food that I really like that you can't usually get in the same place, but it's in the same place here: Mexican and Chinese. You pick if you want stir fry, or tacos or a burrito, and then you pick your protein, and then you pick the style you want, either Cino  (which is with pickled daikon, carrots, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeƱo, and kimchi) or Latino (with black beans and pico de gallo). It's funny because my brother Max and I often disagree about whether we should go to an Asian place or a Mexican place, because I really like Asian food, and Max really likes Mexican, so it's perfect that we can get both here. I got the Mongolian Beef Burrito, and the style didn't really matter to me, because I only wanted rice in mine. But I guess the Mongolian Beef is a Chinese style of meat. It was really good. It was actually the first burrito I have ever had. It was really really delicious. I felt sad when I got too full to finish it. The decor was funny, a mix of the two styles. The wall behind where we were sitting had lots of shelves of hot sauce. The wall in front of us had illustrations of how to use chopsticks. It was very affordable for such delicious food. I give them 5 plates.

Max:
Cino Latino has a lot of choices of food to choose from. You can get Latino, which is with Mexican style garnishes. Or you can get Cino, which is like asian fusion. We got chips and guacamole as an appetizer. The guacamole is very fresh tasting. I don't know what they put in it, but it's great guacamole. The chips are good, they're about average chips. I got a Latino Burrito, with Orange Chicken. It was the best burrito I have ever had. Seriously. Previously my favorite burrito was at Chipotle Mexican Grill (and I know that's a chain, but it really was my favorite burrito), but this just beat it by a little. The orange chicken is so good. It's one of the elements in the burrito that makes it taste so delicious. It was just all so good. The atmosphere is a mix of Mexican and Asian. It's a really nice feeling atmosphere with their wall of hot sauces and stuff. But since Si Fu (Cino Latino) made me the best burrito I've ever tasted, I give them 5 plates.

Ruben:
I found this place on the inter web and the minute i saw it then i knew i wanted to eat there. I was so happy there is finally a new restaurant that is not a bar  in Roscoe Village it's been a while. We went to Si fu on a nice summer afternoon for lunch and the minute i walked in there i loved the atmosphere what can i say its chino and latino atmosphere fortune cookies at the door  sombrero's on the wall it is awesome. Also another cool addition is they have a wall of Mexican hot sauces and Asian hot sauces definitely a cool idea. So at Si fu you get to pick your meat and your bread or salad and you pick chino or latino style i got the coconut curry burrito chino style and it was the best dam burrito i have ever had in my life if you think chipotle is good imagine ten times better! The chicken was very good and the curry omg it felt like it was Kow Soy stuck in a burrito you probably don't know what Koy Soy is its a coconut curry dish served in northern thai land you can see my review of that in our Sticky Rice Thai review. Another thing that we had there was the guacamole and chips and i thought it was great the chips are house made and they are so crunchy and flaky just phenomenal and that guacamole was good too. I give Si fu 5 Plates and i have already been back once and i will be back again soon.

Ethiopian Diamond

Hello, Today we will be reviewing Andersonville's beloved Ethiopian Diamond.

Otto:
I've only been here once before, and it was very good both times. The first time I went, I might have liked the meat I got a little bit better. We got two different plates from the Taste of Ethiopia, one the meat sampler and the other the vegetarian sampler (which I did not eat). They put both on the same big plate, with the injera (the spongy pancake that you use to scoop up the food) underneath. The way they serve it, it looks like a big artist's palette with little blobs of paint (but those blobs are the food). It doesn't sound very good when I describe it, but it actually is. I only ate the meats, and there were actually only three on the plate, so I only tried three of the things. Here are the ones I tried: Yesiga Alicha, which is beef cubed then cooked in a mild Alicha sauce of onions, garlic and ginger. Doro Wat, which is chicken legs marinated and cooked in spicy homemade "Diamond Berbere” sauce. I didn't like that as much as the chicken I got last time, which was with cubed pieces of chicken in a mild sauce. The last meat was the Yebig Wat, and that was actually my favorite. It was lamb (bone-in), also with the Berbere sauce. My least favorite one was actually the chicken, but that might be because I am not a big fan of chicken legs, and that was all there was. And sadly, since there were only three meats, and everyone was eating from them, there wasn't really enough that I could eat. Next time I would get an extra order of meat in addition so that there would be more meat for everyone. If you have never eaten Ethiopian, I should mention that you eat with your hands (they don't give you utensils). They bring you a plate of injera, which is a soft pancake-like spongy thing, and you tear off little bits of it and scoop up the meat or other stuff with it. It was good enough that even when I ran out of meat, I just ate the injera alone. I really liked the sambusas, which is the appetizer that comes with the sample plate. I got the beef, but they messed up our order and gave me a chicken one. Then they brought me the beef too, and I got to eat both. I liked the beef better, but the chicken was delicious too. I give this place 4.5 plates.

Max:
Ethiopian Diamond is one of the most famous restaurants in Chicago. And I have only ever been here once before. The atmosphere is very authentic Ethiopian. They have Ethiopian paintings, and they even have a 1 stringed banjo on the wall. I have never heard of a 1 stringed banjo. We got the taste of Ethiopia as a Platter. the injera that come with their dishes are really good. injera are Ethiopian Pancakes that are not like American pancakes at all, but they're delicious. The texture of injera aren't  Really like a pancake. It's kinda hard too explain the difference but injera are more like a bread texture than a pancake texture. There were so many different sauces that I can't remember all of them. But they were all very good. I really love to mix the sauces together. So like the meat sauces are great with the bean sauces. Also, all the sauces come on a Ethiopian Pancake, so if you run out of pancake you can eat the one on the dish. It's hard to learn how to eat the Ethiopian pancakes. What you do is rip a small peace of the pancake off, and dip it in any sauce you like. I think my favorite sauce is the beef. But I love Ethiopian Diamond, so I will rate it 4.5 plates.

Ruben:
Ethiopian diamond is quite an experience. it feels like your really in Ethiopia. I have been to Ethiopian Diamond about 3 or 4 times. I'm guessing it could be more though but that's what i remember. I have always loved Ethiopian food, especially the sour bread that they call injera. injera is a quite sour bread but it balances out when you put the filling, or you could call them sauces. there were so many. it is hard to choose which one is the best. but they're all really good. some of them spicy, some of them mild, some with meat, some without. so it's nice that they have a variety to pick from. so if you are a vegetarian, you can have some. and those meat lovers out there can have some also. we had these kind of Empanada shaped things. they are called sambusas. but they had different kinds like, chicken, lentil, beef. they where quite good but i was not crazy about the lentil. Ethiopian diamond has a great atmosphere, and it has an African feel to it, and it's pretty clean.  I do Think Ethiopian Diamond is one of the best Ethiopian Restaurants in the Chicago Area so i give it 4.5 plates.
